Iran registers first import in cryptocurrency

Tehran, IRNA – Head of Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) wrote on his Twitter account that the country’s first import in cryptocurrency was registered this week.

Ali Reza Peymanpak wrote on his Twitter page that the first official import registration based on cryptocurrency payment, worth 10 million dollars, was completed successfully this week.

He said that by the end of the next Iranian moth of Shahrivar (Sept 22), using cryptocurrency in cyberspace deals will be broadly used in Iran’s foreign trade with its target export and import countries.

Iran’s central bank approved laws in 2019 imposing an outright ban on trading of cryptocurrencies inside the country. However, the government allowed the use of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin to pay for imports amid restrictions imposed by the United States on Iran’s access to the international banking system.
